In our group, we were fortunate to have an enthusiast for the park's history. He undertook significant research into the park's development. As we walked around the park, he would tell us stories about the people involved in making the park happened.
It turned out that the park was created by the people for the people. It was one of the first parks in the UK purchased through fundraising and donated to the community for its use in perpetuity.
